Motorcycle Ride to Anacortes then to Hoh Rainforest and back home - 20260612 - 20260613

June 12 - From Anacortes to Hoh Rainforest

Looking out at Washington Park in Anacortes from the loop, nice short (one way) drive, easy walks:

Rode south on route 20 down Anacortes, caught the Port Townsend - Coupeville Ferry and rode over to my campsite in the Hoh Rain Forest. Happened to JUST get there right before the ferry was leaving and got on the end of the boat. Since motorcycles are small we get priority over other vehicles. The video is just hours of just riding, i.e. Slow TV video.
This is the Slow TV Anacortes to Hoh Rainforest 20260612 video.

Nice large campground, when I tried a week or two earlier this was the only one open and it was really a group campground, Had it all to myself, don't know how I got so lucky:

Set up my tent and had a local wander by to check everything out:

The Hoh river was a short distance away, went down & explored that a little:

June 13 - From Hoh Rainforest back Home

Rode from the Hoh campground out to 101 and then on to the Kingston-Edmonds Ferry. Again, jumped to the head of the line since I am on a motorcycle. This is the Slow TV Hoh Rainforest Back Home 20260613 ride.

Nice thing about taking a ferry on the motorcycle is I can bypass all the car lining up to get on the vessel. Washington State Ferries loads motorcycles first as an operational convenience rather than a legal entitlement - bikes tuck into the bow, against bulkheads, and into the odd gaps a car can't use, so staging them up front maximizes deck utilization and gets them off the boat fastest on the other end. It's discretionary, though: under WAC 468-300-700 motorcycles aren't a designated preferential-loading category, so the deck crew extends the courtesy because it helps their staging, not because they owe it to you - arrive after loading has started and they'll put you on last, on the back among the cars.

View on the ferry looking south towards Mt Rainier off in the distance, right at the tip of the island on the right:
